Lancaster Bomber JB141

The crew, who they were and why a poem helped me uncover their story

During the war my mum, Jean Gibson was a teenager in Birmingham.
A work colleague was having her 18th birthday and mum was quite excited to hear that her friend's brother would be there with his Lancaster crew!
Inspired, mum wrote a poem to present to them at the party.
Unfortunately, by the time of the party, the crew had been lost. The poem sat in her book of poems for years until we rediscovered it, not long before her death a couple of years ago.

These few web pages contain a story that I wrote from mum's frequent recollections of life in 1940s Birmingham, individual profiles of the crew, some background documents that were discovered along the way and, of course, the poem that was written and never delivered
